This role will be filled on a hybrid basis. This means you can work remotely part of the working week with an expectation to attend the office at least 2 days per week. Any journeys to the office would be at your own expense. More specific details about this can be discussed at the interview stage should you be invited.

The Opportunity 

As a function with Public Health, Active Essex is driven by the “Fit for the Future – The Physical Activity and Sport strategy for Essex, Southend and Thurrock 2021-31.” This outlines the vision for an active Essex to improve everyone’s health and wellbeing, working together across systems to make physical activity a part of everyday life for everyone.  

This role will support the team to organise and deliver creative and impactful marketing and communications for the whole organisation to grow our brand profile and inspire and support residents across the county to be physically active. The role will work across the Active Essex 5 strategic priorities, involving a variety of campaigns, events, interventions, and projects underpinning the delivery of its strategy. 

The successful candidate will have some experience in marketing, communications, or digital and social media. It will be ideal for the candidate to have some knowledge of the full marketing mix, good copy-writing skills and be able to demonstrate experience of using creative and innovative delivery methods effectively.  

This candidate requires a qualification in marketing, communications, or equivalent in experience. 

Accountabilities 

  • Support for the delivery of the marketing and communications business plan, across Active Essex and Active Essex Foundation.
  • Working with Marketing team on the day-to-day running of our social media accounts, social content creation, including video and images.
  • Support updates of the PR database, tracking media coverage and identifying potential relationship opportunities.
  • Carrying out weekly responsibilities, such as reporting, story gathering, designing of presentations, and uploading website content.
  • Assisting the team with wider campaigns and events to develop your knowledge and skills.
  • Involvement in writing and proof-read regular blog content and upload to social media and the website.
  • Work with team on multi-channel marketing and internal and external (B2B, B2C & B2G) communication, exploiting the use of digital.

The Experience You Will Bring

Essential: 

  • Educated to RQF level 6 (Bachelor’s degree) in relevant field e.g., marketing, Communications, social media, English or equivalent by experience.
  • Experience in marketing/communications arena of social media, press/ PR, digital, developing campaigns, events, team working across projects.
  • Strong written and verbal communication and presentation skills.
  • Demonstrate basic competence in the MS Office suite of programmes.

Desirable: 

  • Ability to work on own initiative and take responsibility for decisions relating to own work.
  • Delivery orientated and ability to prioritise workload and meet tight deadlines.
  • You are excited to work as part of a small but growing team, be self-motivated and proactive, ready to roll up your sleeves, learn quickly and venture out of your comfort zone.
