The Revenues & Benefits Service is a shared service between Basildon Borough Council and Brentwood Borough Council managed entirely by Basildon Borough Council using the Civica Open Revenues system. About the Role We are seeking an exceptional experienced and motivated Senior Business Rates Officer to lead the effective management, administration, and collection of non-domestic rates. Working with the Revenues & Enforcement Manager, this is a key leadership role, responsible for a team of Business Rates Officers ensuring statutory compliance, maximising income, and delivering high-quality services to businesses and stakeholders. You will deal with complex cases and provide advice, guidance and mentoring to your team of staff. About what we are looking for We are looking for an experienced officer with strong technical knowledge of business rates and a proven track record in dealing with complex business rates billing and collection. You will have strong IT skills and will be expected to prepare and present financial reports, forecasts, and reconciliations relating to business rates and BID income. One aspect of the role is the successful administration and operation of Business Improvement Districts (BIDs), working closely with internal teams, levy payers, and external partners to ensure accurate billing and collection of 3 BID areas. This role would be perfect for a forward-thinking, IRRV qualified individual with extensive experience of Business Rates administration and collection. Well-versed in rating legislation, you will have great interpersonal skills and a passion for continuous improvement. Hybrid working is encouraged.
