Essex County Council (ECC) are delighted to be supporting Harlow Council to recruit a temporary Senior Surveyor on a 12-month basis. Please note that this post require the successful individual to be based on site a minimum of 3 days per week.

Harlow is a district of contrasts and an ideal location to both live and work. The town itself is thriving, with excellent shopping and leisure facilities for all ages. We have good road links to the M11 and M25 and excellent rail connections to London and Stansted Airport, just 35 minutes and 20 minutes away from Harlow respectively.

Role Overview

We are seeking an experienced and motivated Senior Surveyor to lead and manage surveying projects from conception to completion. The successful candidate will ensure all work is completed accurately, on time, and within budget while maintaining compliance with industry and legal standards. This is an excellent opportunity for a skilled professional to take a leadership role and contribute to the growth of our dynamic team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage and execute a variety of surveying projects, overseeing all stages from planning to delivery.
  • Conduct detailed land, boundary, topographical, and construction surveys using advanced surveying equipment and software.
  • Prepare accurate survey reports, drawings, and maps that meet client and regulatory requirements.
  • Liaise with clients to understand project needs, provide expert advice, and deliver high-quality outcomes.
  • Supervise, mentor, and train junior surveyors, promoting best practices and professional development.
  • Ensure all surveying activities comply with legal, safety, and quality standards.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Surveying, or a related field.
  • Experience: Minimum of 5 years’ professional surveying experience, with demonstrated project management capability.
  • Technical Expertise: Proficiency in modern surveying instruments and software (e.g., GPS, Total Station, AutoCAD, GIS). Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Professional Credentials: MRICS, RICS, or equivalent certification preferred.
  • Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills with strong client relationship abilities.
  • Leadership: Proven experience supervising teams and mentoring junior surveyors.
