Role Overview: As a Finance Officer the successful candidate will provide and support the service in the delivery of a full range of accounting / financial services and advice to Departments within the Council along with supporting the delivery of a number of financial management and corporate financial functions.

Principle accounting services could include budget setting, budgetary control, year-end accounts, treasury, VAT, financial systems and systems development, and would extend to covering all other related financial matters.

The job would involve working with most tiers within the Council including senior officers.

The Council uses AGRESSO as its main financial information system, the support of which would also be a key task of the role.

Qualifications and Experience:

Candidates should be educated to A level standard and hold GCSE passes A*- C (or equivalent) in English Language and Mathematics and ideally be Association of Accounting Technician qualified or approaching the successful completion of the qualification process. In addition, they should be able to demonstrate an advanced knowledge of Excel along with a sound and general understanding of IT systems and Microsoft Office applications.

In addition to the above the Council is seeking a candidate with experience of working of in a local government finance setting and therefore can quickly integrate and deliver results making a positive and immediate impact within the Accountancy service working under their own initiative.

Key Skills and Attributes: 

With knowledge of public sector finance and excellent analytical and communication skills along with the ability to understand and use numerical information, the successful candidate must be able to produce accurate work and work well both independently and as part of a team. They will play a key role in helping the team meet its deadlines and maintain high standards.

The successful applicant will be expected to demonstrate a high level of professionalism and confidentiality, be able to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines. They will need to be organised, self-motivated and attentive to detail.

There is an expectation that the successful candidate will work on site two to three days per week.
