We’re excited to offer a part-time position within our Corporate Core Business Support Team based in Chelmsford. In this role, you’ll work closely with our Reception Team and provide valuable administrative support to the Trading Standards Team.

  • Hours: 22.2 per week
  • Salary: £15,049 per annum (pro-rata)
  • Contract: Fixed term / secondment until 31st March 2026

As an Anywhere Worker, you’ll be based primarily at County Hall, Chelmsford, due to the front-facing nature of the reception desk. However, hybrid working may be available when supporting Trading Standards, arranged on a rota basis to meet team needs.

The Role: 

This role is part of a dynamic Business Support Team, providing high-quality routine administrative support across ECC’s Corporate functions. You’ll have the opportunity to learn and develop a strong understanding of existing systems and processes, while gaining insight into the wider corporate environment. 

As a Business Support Assistant, you’ll carry out a range of administrative tasks under the direction of the Business Centre Manager. This includes accurate and timely data entry into ECC systems, ensuring all customer service requests are completed within agreed timeframes and in compliance with data protection regulations. 

About You: 

  • Educated to RQF Level 2 (GCSE) including maths and English or an equivalent vocational qualification or equivalent demonstrable experience.
  • Evidence of the ability to develop skills and knowledge in role.
  • Demonstrable experience and competence of MS Office applications and their practical application.
  • Ability to use computerised systems with a high level of speed and accuracy.
  • Previous experience of managing electronic or hard copy filing systems.
  • Ability to communicate in a manner which is easily understood and tailored to meet the needs of the audience.
  • Experience of dealing with sensitive and/or personal information.
  • Ability to think of improved ways of working and open to new practices and responsive to change.
  • Ability to take ownership of work and fulfil agreed commitments, checking work for accuracy.
  • Minuting/transcribing of a meetings may be required. 

What will you be doing? 

  • Front-of-house support, including welcoming visitors, handling general enquiries, managing room bookings, answering phone calls, and overseeing shared mailboxes. You’ll also provide day-to-day assistance to various teams based at County Hall.
  • General administrative support, responding to ad-hoc requests and ensuring tasks are completed efficiently and accurately.
  • Deliver efficient administrative support for the Food Registration process, ensuring tasks are completed accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Collaborate closely with Trading Standards Officers, maintaining clear communication and supporting their operational needs.
  • Specific individual and shared targets and objectives are defined annually within the performance management framework.
