Emergency Planning and Business Continuity Officer

Full Time – 37 hours per week

Grade - 5 , ( SCP 17-21 )- Starting Salary - £31,022 - SCP 17

Closing Date - 4/10/2025

 Castle Point Borough Council is seeking a proactive and dedicated Emergency Planning and Business Continuity Officer to join our Corporate and Customer Directorate, supporting the People & Engagement Service.

We’re looking for someone who can:

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the development and maintenance of emergency plans and business continuity procedures in line with the Civil Contingencies Act 2004.
  • Work closely with departments across the Council to identify critical functions and ensure robust continuity plans are in place.
  • Assist in delivering training and exercises to prepare staff and partners for emergency response scenarios.
  • Contribute to risk assessments and mitigation strategies to protect the community and Council operations.
  • Keep plans and policies up to date, ensuring compliance with legislation and best practice.
  • Liaise with external partners, voluntary agencies, and supply chains to strengthen preparedness and response capabilities.
  • Participate in emergency debriefs and help implement lessons learned.
  • Stay informed on emerging guidance from professional bodies such as the Business Continuity Institute (BCI).
  • Support the administration of resources and equipment related to emergency planning and continuity.

Experience & Skills

  • Demonstrable experience in Emergency Planning and/or Business Continuity.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work under pressure.
  • Knowledge of the Civil Contingencies Act and principles of emergency management.
  • Experience delivering training and working with partner agencies.
  • Ability to manage time effectively and prioritise critical workloads.
  • Commitment to flexible working and upholding the Council’s values.

Qualifications

Applicants should hold a relevant qualification in Emergency Planning, Business Continuity, or a related field. Equivalent experience will also be considered.
