Essex County Council (ECC) are delighted to be supporting Maldon District Council to recruit a Housing Solutions Officer for a 3-month temporary contract.

Please note that this role will require you to be based on site 2 days per week in the council offices.

Why Maldon?

Maldon District is a unique place to both work and live; a combination of a coastal location and easy access to London presents the best of both worlds to those seeking a real work life balance. The district offers a wide range of properties from period country cottages through to brand new executive homes.

The Role:

We are looking for a proactive and knowledgeable Housing Solutions Officer to join our frontline team, delivering vital services to individuals and families at risk of homelessness.

In this key role, you’ll be responsible for assessing housing needs, providing tailored advice, and working in line with the Homelessness Reduction Act 2017 to deliver meaningful interventions that prevent and relieve homelessness.

Key responsibilities:

  • Carrying out detailed housing assessments and making decisions under relevant housing legislation
  • Developing and reviewing Personalised Housing Plans with applicants
  • Providing accurate advice on housing options, including privately rented accommodation, supported housing, and tenancy sustainment
  • Liaising with internal departments and external partners to secure appropriate housing solutions
  • Managing a complex caseload and maintaining accurate, up-to-date case records
  • Promoting a trauma-informed, person-centred approach to service delivery
  • Participation in the out of hours duty rota

What we’re looking for:

  • Proven experience of working within housing options services
  • Strong working knowledge of homelessness legislation, including the Homelessness Reduction Act 2017 and Part VII of the Housing Act 1996
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and problem-solving skills
  • Confidence in managing a busy caseload and making sound, lawful decisions
  • The ability to work empathetically with people facing challenging or sensitive situations
  • Experience using housing or case management systems

This is a rewarding opportunity to be part of a dedicated team making a tangible difference in the lives of vulnerable residents. If you're passionate about housing and ready to take on a meaningful challenge, we’d love to hear from you.

Maldon District Council are proud to be a disability confident Leader. We’re committed to interview all disabled applicants if they meet the minimum requirements of the job. We’re also committed to interview all veterans and care leavers, who meet the minimum requirements of the role for which they are applying. Please speak to our Recruiters if you require any reasonable adjustments during the process.
