Essex County Council (ECC) are delighted to be supporting Maldon District Council to recruit a temporary Triage Officer for a 3-month temporary contract.

Please note that this role will require you to be based on site 2 days per week in the council offices.

The role:

We are looking for a Triage Officer to be the first point of contact for individuals and families experiencing housing difficulties. In this vital frontline role, you’ll provide timely, tailored housing advice and support, helping customers access the right solutions and services. You’ll work collaboratively with colleagues and external partners to deliver early intervention and prevent homelessness wherever possible.

Key responsibilities include:

• Delivering accurate triage and housing advice in line with the Homelessness Reduction Act 2017
• Supporting customers to navigate housing options and services
• Managing referrals and maintaining accurate case records
• Promoting a trauma-informed, inclusive approach to customer service

What we’re looking for:

• Experience in a customer-facing role, ideally within housing or support services
• Knowledge of homelessness legislation and safeguarding responsibilities
• Excellent communication, problem-solving, and organisational skills
• Empathy, resilience, and a calm approach when handling complex or sensitive situations
