Essex County Council (ECC) are delighted to be supporting Basildon Borough Council (BBC) to recruit a GIS Officer on an initial 6-month temporary basis. Please note that this post will be based in the office 3 days per week and can also be considered on a part time basis of 3-4 days per week. Why Basildon? The role As a GIS Officer you will provide a geospatial service to achieve the objectives and priorities laid out in our Corporate Plan and the GIS / Data Strategy. You will undertake a wide range of spatial data capture tasks to ensure our record of GIS data is accurate and up to date. You will also assist with data management tasks, making sure that the data you capture is available to staff and external stakeholders via the applications we develop and support. You will also lead the development and integration of geospatial systems and capacity in the Council, paving the way for a permanent Geospatial team at the centre of an efficient and skilled wider team of GIS-users. Main responsibilities Key skills and experience required: Excellent GIS skills and knowledge A strong understanding of the concepts behind data management in a local, regional and national environment Understanding of Information technology and how it integrates with geo-spatial data Experience of GIS and data can integrate with various IT and Digital systems Working under own initiative, task management and working under pressure Communicating and presenting work to a wide range of audiences What you should do next If you are interested in finding out more about this role, we would love to hear from you.
