Essex County Council are delighted to be advertising the role of Finance Assistant (Book Keeper) on behalf of Active Essex Foundation.

Please note this is a part time opportunity for 22.5 hours per week, on a fixed term basis for a period of 12 months, with a possible extension. With the benefit of flexible working.

Job role:

Active Essex Foundation are looking to recruit a passionate and skilled person to support the core functioning of the charity. The Active Essex Foundation has successfully grown since 2016 and recognises the importance of robust core functions to help support the growth of the charity and support in its business development goals.

The role of the Finance Officer is to support the finance administrative functions of the charity.

The postholder’s role will be to support the Sport for Development Officer with maintaining the charity’s financial records, ensuring accuracy and up-to-date information for business decisions, including financial processing that relate directly to the charity’s core business aims including managing payments processing, reconciliation and preparation of grants and records with external stakeholders. 

The role will involve working closely with all staff and Trustees as well as Active Essex who are 1 of 43 Active Partnerships in England.

The role will be employed by the Active Essex Foundation and formally line managed by the Sport for Development Officer.

 

Main Role Accountabilities:

  • Maintain an accurate record of charity financial transactions
  • Support Project teams with management of budgets and predicted forecast
  • Prepare finance reports with the Development Officer for Trustees
  • Update and maintain the finance tracker
  • Account reconciliation to assert the accuracy of transactions monthly
  • Use knowledge of laws to comply with reporting requirements
  • Monitor any variances from the projected budget
  • Set up of and maintenance of accounting software

Experience required:

  • The Active Essex Foundation is looking for candidates with experience of working with local voluntary and community organisation with a Book Keeping focus.
  • The ideal candidate will be confident working independently and have a strong understanding of bookkeeping and financial procedures. You’ll be responsible for maintaining accurate records, managing invoices, processing payments, and preparing reports to support our accountant, management and Trustees.
  • You will be qualified to a Level 3 Certificate of Book Keeping.
  • Experience in finance processes in a community or charitable organisation.
  • You will have strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • You will have excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects, prioritize, and meet deadlines.
  • You will have a good understanding and knowledge of data protection (GDPR) in relation to sensitive and financial information, upholding the confidentiality of our account information, grantees and suppliers.
  • You will have an awareness of the importance of protecting the charity against fraud and cyber crime and be able to recognise particular scams such as invoice fraud, phishing and impersonation.
  • This role is offered as a part-time post. Other options including secondments and job share will be considered to recruit the best candidate.
